Mirror the Experience
Parallel takes a unique perspective on how chemotherapy sessions can reflect patients’ individual journeys at infusion centers. Our team explores how objects can hold meaning and we design Parallel to push the boundaries of how patients experience chemotherapy at infusion centers.

CHALLENGE
“The biggest fear in chemo is not knowing/the idea of losing control of your life”
This excerpt from a previous chemo patient’s blog is what guided us through the development of parallel.
Patients often are aided by caregivers who drive them to sessions and help with the necessary paperwork, so we knew that this group was essential to include in our solution. To educate ourselves, we conducted interviews with nurses, patients, caregivers and researching nearby infusion centers to understand the journey people go through during chemotherapy.
How can we bring transparency to a process that has so many touchpoints and users?

SOLUTION
An infusion center experience produces meaningful objects and connects caregivers and patients to important information.
We made sure to create an experience at an infusion that was transparent and productive for patients and their caregivers. First by identifying what the important data to know is, then displaying that information with relevant context and next steps.
Parallel brings normally intangible pieces of information into a personalized momento that visually shows how a patient’s chemotherapy session and cancer journey are going. This experience paired with a mobile app allows patients and their caregivers to conveniently check in to an infusion and track their chemo sessions.
